Ahora que tengo un poco de tiempo, me gustaria hacer un par de anotaciones sobre algunas cosas que he podido leer los ultimos dias. En primer lugar, hace un par de dias me encuentro con esta joya de Chavez:

En la reunión de enero pasado de este año 2005 estuvimos en el Foro Social
Mundial en Porto Alegre, diferentes personalidades allí pidieron que la sede
de Naciones Unidas saliera de Estados Unidos si es que continúan las
violaciones a la legalidad internacional por parte de ese país. Hoy sabemos
que nunca existieron armas de destrucción masiva en Iraq, el pueblo
estadounidense siempre ha sido muy riguroso con la exigencia de la verdad a
sus gobernantes, los pueblos del mundo también: nunca hubo armas de
destrucción masiva y sin embargo, y por encima de Naciones
Unidas, Iraq fue bombardeado, ocupado y continúa ocupado. Por eso proponemos
a esta Asamblea que Naciones Unidas salga de un país que no es respetuoso
con las propias resoluciones de esta Asamblea.

Y digo yo, ahora que va a pasar con el "si, pero se lo vendieron los americanos"?
Chavez se acaba de cargar una de las frases favoritas con las que justificar los crimenes de Saddam.

Saddam promises more bounties for suicide bombers in Rather interview
In a much publicized second interview with CBS’s Dan Rather, Iraqi’s President Saddam Hussein insisted that continual American pressure had little effect. “Look at Afghanistan. Here it is almost October 2005, and America is still fighting the Taliban, so I don’t think they will dare come to our Iraq. But we are ready to be martyred nonetheless.”




The Iraqi president who was hosting Palestinian leader Mahmoud Abbas also denied rumors that Iraqi agents had attempted to assassinate former President Bill Clinton. On recent disclosures of a plot against him, President Clinton left nearby Kuwait, where he had lectured his hosts on the dangers of WMD proliferation in Iraq.

Among the more tense moments of the Rather interview was Saddam’s insistence that Iran’s nuclear program demanded an “Arab response.” The Iraqi leader also promised to increase his bounties to suicide bombers on the West Bank to $40,000 per family, and planned to expand the program to include martyrs who joined the Taliban resistance. CBS’s Rather grimaced, “I guess that $70-a-barrel oil give you a pretty wide berth, Mr. President.”

A lo que se podria anadir cientos de cosas de mas.

Otro destacable, esta genial y acertadisima vineta de Cox & Forkum, a la que habria que anadir este mail enviado por un marine americano:

I think you would be amazed at the morale of the young military people here. I know I am. I’ve been in for over 28 years and I have seen good and bad. These youngsters are getting the job done in a way I would never have imagined. They go on convoys, get shot at or have IEDs go off, then they return still in high spirits. The trick here is to convince the bad guys they have been beat. The idiots at the peace rallies are what’s really hurting since the stated goals of the insurgents is to break down public support for the war in the US. I heard the other day that 52% of the people back home think we are losing. I would be worried if it was 1995 and this was the case, but Bush doesn’t govern via polls like Clinton did. That’s one thing we all appreciate about the president; he sticks to the plan.

Aprovechando que ahora vivo en Londres, hace unos dias me fui a una libreria muy grande, Waterstones, que segun dicen es de las mas grandes de Europa. Ahi me compre entre otros libros, uno pequeno de Naomi Klein, "NO WAR; America's real business in Iraq. Me lo compre esperando que me contase cuanto petroleo habia robado Bush ya, aun no he empezado a leermelo, solo un par de paginas. La primera frase es toda una declaracion de intenciones: "It was only after I had been in Baghdad for a month that I found what I was looking for"
Y viene a decir que Irak se esta convirtiendo en un paraiso capitalista.... estoy intrigado en ver como sigue.
