¿Quieres entender cómo funciona en realidad toda la política exterior americana? Pues no te pierdas Syriana.

Ahora en serio, acabo de verla. Cuando salió en el cine ya intuía de qué pie iba a cojear la película, teniendo en cuenta que uno de los productores ejecutivos y protagonistas era George Clooney y se metía en el tema petróleo/Oriente Medio. Pero jamás pensé cuál iría a ser el mensaje de la película: Que EEUU es un gran Estado Terrorista en las manos de compañías petrolíferas. Semejante delirio lo he leído y oido miles de veces, pero jamás pensé que alguien lo pudiera llevar al gran cine.

Es evidentemente que insultar y despreciar al propio país es ahora la moda de Hollywood, tras cansarse de hacer películas en las que EEUU salvaba al mundo de todas las amenzas posibles.
Estaría totalmente en contra de su censura, pero creo que se han pasado unos cuantos pueblos. Y diría también, que introducir semejantes pensamientos por esa zona, podría llegar a ser una amenaza a la seguridad nacional.

Le haría una pregunta a George & company; ¿Creen ustedes que semejante acto de propaganda anti-americana lo hubiera podido hacer mejor Bin Laden?

He podido leer algunas críticas a la película. Una muy buena es de Amir Taheri:

Would it change anything if one were to remind the conspiracy theorists that none of the high profile political murders in the Arab world over the past century had anything to do with the US or any other foreign power?

Let us start with Rafik Al-Hariri, Lebanon's former prime minister, who was murdered last February. Was he killed by the CIA or, as Abdul-Halim Khaddam, Syria's former Vice President, now asserts by a criminal coterie in Damascus?

The list of Arab leaders murdered since 1900 is a long one. It includes six prime ministers, three kings, a ruling Imam, seven presidents of the republic, and dozens of ministers, parliamentarians and senior military officials. Every single one of them was killed either by Islamist militants (often from the Muslim Brotherhood) or by pan-Arab nationalists or by radical Arab security services.

The self-loathing party in the US, which includes a disturbingly large part of the elite, is doing three things.

First, it says that America, being the evil power it is, is a legitimate target for revenge attacks by Arab radicals and others.

Secondly, it tells the American people that all this talk about democracy is nonsense if only because major decisions are ultimately taken by a cabal of businessmen, and politicians and lawyers in their pay.

Lastly, and perhaps without realizing it, the self-loathing Americans reduce the Arabs to the level of mere objects in their history. It is the almighty America that decides every single detail of Arab life with the Arabs as, at best, onlookers and, at worst, victims of American violence. The Arabs are even denied credit for their own terrorist acts as "Syriana" shows that it is not they but the CIA that decides who kills whom and where.

What is grotesque about this moment of plot clarity is that the overwhelmingly obvious critique of actual U.S. policy in the real Middle East today concerns America's excess of Wilsonian idealism in trying to find and promote -- against a tide of tyranny, intolerance and fanaticism -- local leaders like the Good Prince. Who in the greater Middle East is closest to the modernizing, democratizing paragon of "Syriana"? Without a doubt, President Hamid Karzai of Afghanistan, a man of exemplary -- and quite nonfictional -- personal integrity, physical courage and democratic temperament. Hundreds of brave American (and allied NATO) soldiers have died protecting him and the democratic system they established to allow him to govern. On the very night the Oscars will be honoring "Syriana," American soldiers will be fighting, some perhaps dying, in defense of precisely the kind of tolerant, modernizing Muslim leader that "Syriana" shows America slaughtering.

Personalmente no aguanto las conspiparanoias. La mayoría están fundamentadas en rumores creados sin pruebas y en un odio extremo al que acusan. Hay una conspiparanoia que se está dando mucho en los círculos Anti-ZP que me parece totalmente fuera de lugar, y cuyo argumento viene a ser que el 11-M fue obra de ETA, con colaboración, o directamente orquestado por el PSOE.
Es verdad que hay muchos agujeros negros, muchas cosas "extrañas", que por tanto, se debe, sin ninguna objeción, seguir investigando. NO SE SABE TODO. Pero jamás podré creer que el PSOE tuviera algo que ver. Lo creeré cuando el más furibundo seguidor del PSOE también lo crea.

De la misma forma que se ha hecho Syriana o Fahrenheit 9/11, se podría hacer una película tipo ETA + ZP= 11-M (En alusión a los que aplauden con las orejas y creen todo lo que se dice en las dos películas).
