Anti-semitismo

El reciente conflicto en Israel e Hizbullah (no El Líbano) ha puesto de manifiesto el creciente anti-semitismo que que existe en el mundo. Muchos se han sentido ofendidos por ser catalogados de anti-semitas por sólo criticar a Israel.
Es evidente que por criticar a Israel nadie debería ser denominado de anti-semita, ahora bien, tampoco hay que aceptar que gente que muestra desprecio y odio a lo judio se esconda tras otra denominaciones para no ser tachados de racistas. El anti-sionismo, el pro-pastelinismo etc... muchas veces, no son más que disfraces para ocultar un anti-semitismo rampante.

Éstos dicen que los pro-sionistas llaman a todo aquel que ose criticar a Israel anti-semita, dando a entender como que el anti-semitismo casi no existiera.
Sinceramente, creo que esto es in insulto a la inteligencia de las personas y a la historia; los judios han sido perseguidos durante siglos y siglos, prácticamente desde su existencia. Se han llevado a cabo verdaderas masacres contra los judios, y no por ocupar Cisjordania o Gaza.

Uno es capaz de ver perfectamente quién es anti-semita y quién sólo está realizando una crítica a la política de Israel.

Irwin Cotler propuso unos puntos que indican anti-semitismo:

Genocidal anti-Semitism

The first and most lethal is existential or genocidal anti-Semitism. I am referring here to the public call for the destruction of Israel and the Jewish people.


Political anti-Semitism

There are three manifestations of this phenomenon. The discrimination against, denial of, or assault upon the Jewish people's right to self-determination which, as Martin Luther King, Jr. put it, "is the denial to the Jews of the same right, the right to self-determination that we accord to African nations and all other peoples of the globe.


Theological anti-Semitism

This refers to the convergence of state-sanctioned Islamic anti-Semitism, which characterizes Jews and Judaism, let alone Israel, as the perfidious enemy of Islam…


Denying Israel equality before the law

I am referring here to the singling out of Israel for differential, if not discriminatory, treatment amongst the family of nations


Economic anti-Semitism

…Classical economic anti-Semitism involved discrimination against Jews in housing, education, and employment; the new economic anti-Semitism involves the extra-territorial application by Arab countries of an international restrictive covenant against corporations conditioning their trade with Arab countries on their agreement not to do business with Israel


State-sanctioned anti-Semitism

This refers to the state-sanctioned "culture of hate"—integrating both old and new forms of anti-Jewishness—that finds increasing __expression in the incitement to hatred in state-controlled mosques, media, schools, and other institutions, including such recent examples as the broadcasting of the Protocols of the Elders of Zion…and the appropriation of symbols and motifs from classical anti-Semitism to demonize Israel and the Jewish people today

Es una guía útil, pero he de decir, que incluso yo no estoy de acuerdo con algunos puntos. Ni siquiera considero que el hecho de negar el Holocausto o rechazar el Estado de Israel tenga porqué ser anti-semita, aunque la inmensa mayoría que lo manifieste así, sí que lo sea. Tampoco estoy de acuerdo con que se tenga que encarcelar o perseguir a aquellas personas que nieguen el Holocausto. Los historiadores deberían informar a la sociedad de los hechos, y que ésta margine, rechace y tome por loco a quien diga semejante barbaridad.

Thomas Friedman lo puso de forma más clara y breve:

Criticizing Israel is not anti-Semitic, and saying so is vile. But singling out Israel for opprobrium and international sanction -- out of all proportion to any other party in the Middle East -- is anti-Semitic, and not saying so is dishonest.
